The Reality of Provision

Walking in Faith: The Reality of Provision

I wanted to take a moment to share a glimpse of the “real” — the ongoing wrestle and trust walk we face as full-time missionaries. It’s not always easy, and finances have definitely been one of the bigger areas of learning and growth.
When we stepped into full-time missions in 2021, we had a small financial cushion from the sale of our boat and vehicles. At the time, it felt like a step of faith — and it was — but in all honesty, knowing that money was there gave us a bit of a safety net. I (Kim) didn’t feel the pressure right away. But Tim, with his finance background, saw it differently. Even in those early days, he was already thinking ahead, calculating when that cushion might run out — all while trusting God’s leading and peace.
And God has provided. Every step of the way. Always before we truly needed it. He is so good and so faithful — we’ve never lacked. We’ve received provision from complete strangers, odd jobs from Christian business owners, and even many pounds of meat! (Yes, you read that right!) If there’s anything we’ve learned, it’s to never put God in a box. He provides in different ways at different times.
We’ve also learned to pray carefully about each opportunity. Saying “yes” to one thing often means saying “no” to something else — and we want to stay open to what God is asking of us in each season.
About a year into our journey, as our resources began to dwindle, we were faced with the reality of trusting God’s provision all over again. Even then, He never failed us. We continued to see His hand — through people, work offers, and connections we couldn’t have orchestrated ourselves. Tim was often invited to help with jobs like landscaping or construction — sometimes just for a few days, sometimes longer — and it was always just what we needed.
That said, it wasn’t always easy. There were definitely moments of doubt and uncertainty. Times when we didn’t know how God would come through — but we had to trust that He would. In those moments, the verses about “remembering” became so real. Remembering how He provided before gave us faith to believe He’d do it again.

One recent example was when Tim took on a large fiberglass repair job on a friend’s boat. After a lot of prayer, we both felt it was the right “yes” for that time. Initially, the damage didn’t look too bad — but once Tim got into the thick of it, it was clear the job was more involved than we thought. I’ll admit, I wondered how he’d pull it off. But just like so many times before, God gave him the creativity and wisdom to figure it out. Watching him rebuild the bow piece by piece was like watching an artist at work.
The boat owner was thrilled with the results and asked Tim to stay on for additional repairs. But after prayerful consideration, Tim had to decline. Our family had other commitments coming up, and we knew we needed to be fully present for them.
This job was a blessing in more ways than one. Not only did it help financially, but we also got to stay on our dear friend’s property during the project. We shared meals, fellowship, and the girls loved spending time with their best friends next door.
This “yes” was a gift. A beautiful example of God’s provision — not just financially, but relationally and spiritually. And for that, we are so thankful.
