From Land to Sea: When God Expands the Reach

Some of you have been with us since the very beginning — when God first called us to “GO” and we stepped out in faith, living life on the road in our camper. It only feels right to share how He’s now shifting us once again — this time, from the road to the water.

Before we ever left in the camper, life was full and good. Tim was running a successful charter business, and I held a leadership position at our girls’ private Christian school. We were both thriving in what we did, deeply connected to our local church, and genuinely content. But when God said “GO”, everything changed.

We felt Him leading us to downsize, sell everything (yes, even the boats!), and trust Him with no backup plan. The boats were never something we intended to let go of. In our minds, they were part of the plan — we’d serve for six months, then return for charter season so Tim could bring in income. But God had something entirely different in mind.

As Tim prayed about what to do with the boats, the Lord led him to the story in Acts 5, where Ananias and Sapphira sold their property but kept back part of the proceeds for themselves.

“But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land?’” — Acts 5:3

When Tim read this passage, it wasn’t about condemnation — it was conviction. The Holy Spirit whispered, “Trust Me completely — no safety nets.” And so we did. We sold it all, and God confirmed His faithfulness every step of the way. (You can read the full miracle story in another blog post!)

The Return and the Wrestling

After months on the road, serving where He led and staying as long as He desired, we returned to Florida — just for a short season, or so we thought. We came back to help some friends refurbish their RV, but beneath the surface, both of us were wrestling with something deeper.

Tim began quietly browsing boat sites — fishing boats, sailboats, jon boats — and I couldn’t understand why. We had already surrendered that chapter, hadn’t we? Inside, I wrestled with fear that maybe this meant settling down again, stepping back from the full-time ministry life I had come to love.

Meanwhile, Tim was having his own battle — asking God to take away the desire for the water if it wasn’t from Him. What neither of us realized at the time was that this wasn’t about boats; it was about calling.

The enemy tried to use that season to sow division, but when we finally came together in prayer, we recognized the spiritual battle for what it was. Unity and peace were restored the moment we surrendered it back to God.

“Maybe God Is Expanding Our Reach”

A few days later, as we sat together in our camper, staring at our cork map of the U.S., Tim looked at me and said something that pierced my heart —

“I don’t know, Kim… maybe God is expanding our reach.”

In that instant, tears filled my eyes. I knew that was from the Lord. My response came easily and full of faith:

“Then we need a boat.”

That moment marked a turning point. From there, doors began to open almost immediately. Within a week, we connected with several ministries involved in maritime missions — divine appointments we never could have orchestrated ourselves. (You can read more about these amazing connections in our post, Maritime Missions.)

Back to the Water, For His Glory

Looking back, it’s almost humorous — God told us to sell the boats, then years later brought us back to the water, but this time for His purposes, not ours. As His children, we now see the pattern: every “letting go” was making room for something greater.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” — Psalm 37:4

All things water have been woven into both of our lives since childhood. God planted that love long ago, knowing one day He would use it for His Kingdom — to reach others, to carry hope, and to make His name known.

And now, we get to walk (and sail) in that calling — not out of striving, but out of surrender.

A Question for You

As we step into this new chapter, we can’t help but wonder — what about you? What desire has God planted deep in your heart that He might be preparing to use for His Kingdom?

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10

Our prayer is that you would listen closely to His leading — even if it means letting go of what feels secure — and trust that He will expand your reach too.
