Through the Peep Hole — Learning to Follow God’s Lead

All along our travels, we’ve been asked a few common questions:

  1. Where are you going?
  2. How do you know where the Lord is leading you?

Both are great questions — and if I’m honest, they’ve been part of our own conversations with God too.

The best way I can explain it is with a simple analogy.

You know what a peep hole is? It’s that tiny opening in a door that lets you see who’s standing on the other side. The image you see isn’t clear — it’s a bit distorted, just a shadow or outline of what’s really there.

That’s often how it feels when God leads us. We don’t get the full, crystal-clear picture ahead of time. We just get a glimpse — a nudge — enough to take the next step of faith.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

Time and time again, the Lord would stir something in our hearts — a connection in a certain place, a prompting to move on, or simply a gentle whisper that it was time for the next step. It was never a full roadmap, just that hazy outline through the peep hole.

We couldn’t see clearly what was ahead, but we knew He was on the other side, guiding the way.

At those moments, we’d stop and pray. Then, with open hands, we’d begin to plan our route. Without fail, God would confirm the direction — sometimes through people, sometimes through circumstances, but always through His peace.

“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in His way.” — Psalm 37:23

This season of learning to tune our hearts to His voice — to listen, to wait, and then to step — has been one of the most faith-building experiences of our lives. Every time we said “yes,” even when we didn’t see clearly, He met us there.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

He would nudge — we’d step — and He would lead. Again and again.

And each time, He proved Himself faithful. What started as faint, foggy outlines became testimonies of His provision, His timing, and His perfect guidance.

When we live this way — through the “peep hole” — we may not always see the full picture, but we see enough to move forward in trust. And that’s what walking by faith looks like.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” — _Proverbs 3:5–6
